Our History

1907

Our first barbershop opens on George Street, it had three floors and was frequently visited by city gents, Sheffield workers and visitors to Sheffield. This was the beginning for generations to come.



1910's - 1940's

We opened a hairdressing salon in the basement of the Grand Hotel. This was situated right in the heart of Sheffield city centre. The salon was frequently visited by theatre goers and Sheffield people.

The Surrey Street barbershop opens and was visited by city gents, Sheffield workers, and visitors to Sheffield. The George Street salon was bombed and destroyed during WW2.

Our first suburban salon opens.



1970

The Grand Hotel shut along with the salon, and the building was demolished. Our first city centre ladies salon opens and still exists to this day!



1999 – 2006

The Mensroom salon opens on Division Street. This salon was created to cater for business men and fashion aware gents to compliment the already well established Surrey Street Barbershop.

Taylor Taylor Hairdressing Glossop Road opens within the award winning, contemporary designed Sinclairs building. This salon combines luxurious surroundings with a friendly, relaxed atmosphere and affordability. Sinclairs hosted Taylor Taylor’s 100 year anniversary celebrations, including a fashion show demonstrating how hair and fashion has evolved over the last 100 years.



2010’s

The Dronfield Barbershop opens, a classic city centre style barber shop on Dronfield High Street!

Taylor Taylor Hairdressing Surrey Street has a re-fit. A contemporary, modern city centre salon to cater for all age groups and styles. Taylor Taylor open a beauty salon upstairs within the Surrey Street salon!

The new Training School opens to train the next hairdressing stars of Sheffield! The company branding is updated to tie both the Ladies and the Barbers’ Salons together with a fresh look. The Glossop Road salon is re-located to a ground floor unit in the heart of the city centre. Now called the Division Street Salon. The vibe within is a friendly, welcoming salon where creative and quality work is underpins everything we do.

The Taylor Taylor Training School is launched educating the next generation of hairdressing and Barbering stars in Sheffield. Once situated above the Surrey St salon this training school eventually closed.



2015+

The Men’s room on Division Street has a re-fit to give the salon a quirky City Gent feel with a traditional twist. The unit is renamed Taylor Taylor Barbershop to tie in with the rest of the brand.



Now in the 2020s , all three barbershops and our salon are booming. We are excited for everything the future holds for Taylor Taylor.

Meet the directors

Daniel Taylor

Creative Director

Daniel plays an integral part in the salon and it’s growth over the last 25 years. Daniel’s ultimate passion is developing the team by sharing his creativity and experience to further increase their skills and interests. Daniel combine’s his extensive hairdressing experience with portrait photography, enabling him to lead and direct company branding along with taking photographs for competition work. Daniel has also been a Guest Artist for Wella, for the last twelve years, ensuring he is focused and up to date on new trends which help him deliver new ideas to the team that they pass on to clients. Over the years, he has collected a variety of awards for his work including Trend Vision bronze winner and being short listed for Northern hairdresser of the year on two occasions.

Paul Taylor

Director

Paul works closely with his brother Nick in running the 3 barbers shops. Having been in the business from a very young age, Paul is to this day extremely passionate about barbering, believing that the ever-evolving nature of the business is why the job is so fascinating. He enjoys the opportunity to meet with people from all walks of life. Paul is committed to making sure the business is running smoothly and is constantly developing the systems and brand, whilst ensuring that Taylor remains an integral part of Sheffield’s future as much as it has been a part of its history.

Nick Taylor

Director

Nick works closely with his brother Paul to manage the three Taylor Taylor barbershops. Nick splits his time across all three locations as he believes this enables him to engage with all the team and clients on a daily basis. As well as working behind a chair, Nick is fully involved in the day to day running of the business. He has particular interest in the training side and likes to spend time upskilling all the team, this has given Nick the chance to become part of the American Crew global Education team and the opportunity to teach men’s hair/barbering across Europe and America.

Josh Taylor

Style Director / Manager

Josh has been hairdressing for 24 years and did his first haircut at the age of 15 and then went on to be coached and trained by his father, brother, and cousin. His passion for hairdressing comes chance to make your client look and feel good when they leave the salon and giving 100% to his work and clients. Josh affirms that his consultations are paramount to any service he does from shampooing, blow drying, cutting, and colouring, he also sees his clients have the best quality of hair at all times by recommending the right home care products. Outside of the salon, Josh has done various cutting and colouring seminars for Wella all over the UK including Edinburgh, Aberdeen, London and Manchester, focusing on current trends and educating other fellow hairdressers.

Matt Taylor

Director

Whilst running a busy clientele, Matthew is in charge of the salon training & development, over the years he has travelled the UK educating hairdressers all over the country. He uses his experience to train apprentices to a level that they are confident enough to be able to have a career and be a successful stylist here at Taylor Taylor. From a development point of view Matthew is in charge of the salons individual progress meetings, his role is to analyse each individual’s performance and help them move forward to reach higher levels. Matthew also plans and delivers the salons team meetings.
